[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A man in his 50s was sentenced to prison for forcibly molesting a minor with an intellectual disability whom he had known.
The Jeju District Court's 2nd Criminal Division (Chief Judge Jang Chansu) announced on the 25th that A (54), who was tried on charges of forcibly molesting a disabled person, was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison. The court also ordered A to complete 80 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.
The court stated, "The victim suffered great mental shock and pain from this incident," and added, "In particular, the defendant has not been forgiven by the victim, and the victim's recovery has not been achieved."
A is accused of forcibly touching the body of B (16), a victim with a level 3 intellectual disability, multiple times at his store in Samdo 1-dong, Jeju City, around 5:30 p.m. on November 13, 2018.
It was confirmed that A committed this crime after knowing B, who usually visited the store 2 to 3 times a week, for about a year.
A denies the crime, claiming, "On the day of the incident, I only grabbed the victim's shoulder who was in front of the stairs and moved them aside; I did not molest the victim."
