40-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Beating Wife Who Refused Sexual Relations
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A Chinese man in his 40s was sentenced to prison for indiscriminately assaulting his wife who refused to have sexual relations and slapping his stepdaughter who tried to stop him.
The Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Judge Ko Chun-soon) announced on the 13th that it sentenced A (43), a Chinese national who was detained and prosecuted on charges of injury and violation of the Child Welfare Act, to three years in prison.
He was also ordered to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the motive of the violence and the extent of the damage, the crime is serious. The circumstances after the crime are also unfavorable, such as calling the hospitalized wife to request cancellation of the incident, so appropriate punishment is necessary."
A was prosecuted for indiscriminately assaulting his wife B (36) on the head and other parts at their home in Seowon-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungbuk, around 7:45 p.m. on March 3, causing injuries requiring more than 10 weeks of treatment.
B was reported to have suffered serious injuries, including fractures in four places of her lumbar vertebrae due to A's assault.
He is also accused of throwing B's cellphone against the wall and breaking it when she tried to report to the police during the assault.
It was reported that he cursed and hit his stepdaughter C (10) on the head when she tried to stop the assault.
