[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The musical "Jamie" (original title: Everybody's Talking About Jamie), which premiered in London's West End in early 2017, will have its domestic premiere at the LG Arts Center this July. The production is by Show Note Co., Ltd. and AC Orange Company, with the opening scheduled for July 7.
The musical Jamie is based on a true story and depicts the dreams, challenges, and family love of Jamie, a 17-year-old high school student who wants to become a drag queen. Jamie premiered in Sheffield, UK, in 2017 and quickly moved to the West End that same year, where it has been running continuously. It was nominated for five Olivier Awards in 2018 and won three WhatsOnStage Awards. An Australian tour is planned, and a film adaptation will be released this fall.
The role of Jamie, which requires strong vocal and acting skills as well as stage presence, is cast with Jo Kwon, Shin Joo-hyup, and idols MJ (ASTRO) and Ren (NU'EST), who are challenging musical theater for the first time.
The role of Margaret, Jamie's mother who supports him and helps him achieve his dreams, will be played by first-generation musical actress Choi Jung-won and Kim Sun-young, who won Best Actress at the 4th Korean Musical Awards this January.
The role of Hugo, the legendary drag queen known as "Roco Chanel," who now runs the drag queen costume shop "Victor Secret" and serves as Jamie's mentor, will be played by Yoon Hee-seok and Choi Ho-jung.
