According to a reading trend survey conducted by Happy Book Club on 986 office workers in celebration of "World Book Day (23rd)," 43.8% of office workers read one book per month, the highest percentage. Those who read 2 to 4 books accounted for 36.1%. The percentage of respondents who did not read any books was 11.4%. The average amount spent on purchasing books was 24,000 KRW. The largest group, 40.4%, spent between 10,000 and 30,000 KRW. This was followed by less than 10,000 KRW (21.5%), 30,000 to 50,000 KRW (17.8%), and 0 KRW (13.0%). The most common method of buying books was through online bookstores at 68.0%. Offline bookstore purchases accounted for 34.7%, and free borrowing from libraries and other sources was 27.8%. The main genres read were self-development (56.4%). Humanities, history, religion, and arts accounted for 45.0%, business and economics 40.2%, and poetry, novels, and essays 27.6%, respectively.
