Facebook Cancels Large-Scale Events Until June Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] Facebook has decided to cancel all large-scale events with more than 50 attendees until June next year. The work-from-home system for employees will also continue through this summer.
On the 16th (local time), according to the U.S. economic media CNBC, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO, announced this policy through his Facebook account. He explained, "I hope this helps prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) so that our community can stay safe and soon get back up and running."
Accordingly, Facebook employees will continue working from home until the end of May. For employees who are deemed unable to return to the office for any reason, the company plans to allow them to continue working from home through this summer. Additionally, Facebook has decided to prohibit business trips for employees at least until June this year.
Facebook will also not hold any large-scale events with more than 50 people until June next year. Instead, they plan to replace these with virtual events of similar scale.
CEO Zuckerberg emphasized that the normalization process must be gradual. He stated, "I know that most employees find it difficult to work easily from home," but added, "When our society begins to return to normal, the reopening must be slow and staggered to minimize the potential for future (COVID-19) outbreaks and to ensure that those returning to the workplace can be safe."
