Starbucks Partners with Areumdawoon Foundation to Support Youth Independence and Dreams... Recruiting 'Protected Youth Aging Out'
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Starbucks Coffee Korea announced on the 18th that it will launch the ‘2020 Youth Self-Reliance Settlement Dream Support Project’ in collaboration with the Areumdaun Foundation to support the independence and dreams of youth aging out of protective care.
In January, Starbucks signed an MOU with the Areumdaun Foundation to support the independence of youth aging out of protective facilities who must become self-reliant. Following this, Starbucks launched a campaign to encourage the dreams of youth and raised a total fund of 250 million KRW for the youth support project.
As part of this campaign, Starbucks plans to provide various experiences and practical opportunities for self-reliance to youth aging out of protective care who have not entered college, helping them achieve a more stable entry into society.
After screening through document review and interviews, selected youth will receive up to 5 million KRW per person as self-reliance support funds. Additionally, support activities such as self-reliance education programs, mentoring programs, and travel activities worth approximately 500,000 KRW per person will be provided to help youth aging out of care develop autonomy and pursue diverse dreams.
Furthermore, Starbucks will continue to expand support projects that encourage the dreams and challenges of youth by offering practical educational opportunities such as free courses at Hanyang Cyber University, a partner of Starbucks, and participation in Starbucks barista training.
The eligibility for application includes youth nationwide who have aged out of child welfare facilities (including foster care and shelters), have not entered college, are under 29 years old (born in 1991 or later), and are not receiving support from other organizations.
