Hallym Graduate School of International Studies Proposes 'Hearing Aid Standards', Establishing International Standards
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The 'Hearing Aid Fitting Management' standard, proposed and developed by Hallym Graduate University of International Studies (HUGS), has unanimously passed the final approval stage (FDIS) for international standardization and will be established as an international standard within this year.
On the 24th, the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) announced that the standard developed by HUGS, supported through the National Standard Technology Capability Enhancement Project led by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and operated by KEIT, is internationally applicable.
KEIT explained that the hearing aid fitting management standard provides standardized service guidelines to improve the quality of service by hearing aid experts for user satisfaction.
The main contents specify facility standards, equipment standards, education standards, and ethical standards. It also covers the composition and procedures of hearing aid fitting management, including counseling, auditory evaluation, hearing aid adjustment and verification, and auditory training as part of aftercare.
The standard was proposed in 2015 by Professor Lee Jeonghak of the Department of Audiology and Speech Therapy at HUGS. KEIT stated that after five years of discussion, it is significant that a comprehensive international standard for hearing aid fitting management services has been established.
The international standard for hearing aid fitting management includes contents such as hearing aid fitting management and audiology terminology standards, developed with the support of KEIT and KATS.
