"Maximizing Synergy with LGU+" LG Hello Expands Giga Internet Coverage
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG HelloVision announced that it will expand cable giga coverage within its service area to 99% through synergy with LG Uplus.
On the 18th, LG HelloVision stated that it will collaborate with LG Uplus to increase cable giga coverage and promote the spread of giga internet. By leasing LG Uplus's internet network to additionally secure giga infrastructure, the goal is to provide fast and stable giga internet services. The synergy business between the two companies is expected to accelerate, starting with giga internet.
Through this cooperation, LG HelloVision raised giga coverage within its existing service area to 99%. Due to the nature of cable, LG HelloVision, which had focused on HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial) internet, was able to significantly improve its giga infrastructure from the previous 30% range. Following the first commercialization of giga internet services in Korea in September 2011, this marks a significant step in laying the foundation for the popularization of giga internet.
Based on 99% coverage, the focus will be on spreading giga internet. The goal is to provide a stable content service environment with robust wired infrastructure suitable for the 5G era. Additionally, as broadcasting, internet, and mobile convergence strengthens, the plan is to grow high-quality giga internet at reasonable prices as a core product to drive the resurgence of cable TV.
In particular, LG HelloVision's giga internet products are up to 36% cheaper compared to telecom companies. The main product combining giga internet and UHD broadcasting has a three-year contract price in the 20,000 KRW range. This is over 10,000 KRW cheaper than telecom companies' products of the same quality. The no-contract internet standalone product also secured price competitiveness compared to telecom companies.

Furthermore, if customers use a telecom company's mobile phone, they can receive an additional 20% discount on internet fees through equal bundling. Equal bundling is a system where combining mobile phones from the three telecom companies (LG Uplus, SKT, KT) with LG HelloVision's internet results in discounts on both mobile phone and internet fees. The three telecom companies provide the same discounts as their own wired and wireless bundles, and LG HelloVision offers an additional 20% discount. Jang Sang-gyu, Executive Director of LG HelloVision's Home Business Group, said, “Through cooperation with LG Uplus, we have expanded giga internet coverage and secured quality and price competitiveness,” adding, “We will grow giga internet as a core pillar for cable's resurgence.”
