Japan's 'Wuhan Pneumonia' and Tokyo Olympics Cancellation? ... IOC "Not True"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] On the 30th, Asahi Shimbun reported that a commotion arose due to fake news spreading that the '32nd Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games' would be canceled because of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia). The Olympic Organizing Committee dismissed it as "groundless."
According to the report, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is indeed discussing countermeasures with the World Health Organization (WHO), but denied that "the suspension of the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for this summer is true."
On the 29th, a Japanese media outlet reported news that the IOC and WHO were discussing preventive measures against the novel coronavirus infection, and Asahi Shimbun stated that the controversy seems to have arisen due to this being misunderstood.
The Japanese government and various ministries are working hard to prepare preventive measures against the novel coronavirus infection.
Last April, in preparation for the Olympics, each ministry established a working group on infectious disease countermeasures and announced a 'Plan on Infectious Disease Countermeasures' summarizing measures and information provision for foreign visitors to Japan.
A Japanese government official said, "We are ensuring information sharing with the organizing committee and Tokyo Metropolitan Government to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus."
The organizing committee also stated, "We are closely cooperating with national agencies and reviewing necessary measures to hold a safe event."
